12-year-old boy abused at Welioya police station

The court has ordered to arrest the police personnel who are suspected of being connected to committing, assisting and abetting the abuse of the 12-year-old boy at Welioya Police station whilst in police custody.

The relevant court case was taken up at the Kebetigollawa Magistrate court yesterday (May 28).

On this occasion, Magistrate Manoj Prabhakaran issued this order to ASP of the Mullaitivu District.

The Magistrate has also ordered that if on the occasion that those responsible are not identified, all police personnel at the Welioya police station, should be produced for an identification parade.

The Kebetigollawa Magistrate informed at court that if the suspects were not arrested and produced before the court, it would become necessary to take up the complaint in court.

The child was arrested by Welioya Police on 8th of this month over a theft of corrugated sheets.

Then the child was detained at the Welioya Police, and the child had complained that he was abused by an on-duty policeman inside the police premises.
